The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from space and is the world’s largest single structure created by living organisms. This reef structure is composed and built by billions of tiny organisms, called coral polyps. It is home to diverse life and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. CNN has listed it as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Queensland National Trust has named it the State Symbol of Queensland.
